Oh my. Has it been that long?

I blame my absence on sleep deprivation and the fact that my brain has been operating at 0% capacity for the past 2 weeks. Case in point, it took me about 5 minutes to decide if I spelled ‘capacity’ correctly. Did I? Who knows. The past 4 months of insufficient rest suddenly caught up with me and rendered me mostly useless for two weeks straight.

I’m happy to report, however, that things are on the up and up. To start with, Ella can now put herself to sleep. GLORY!!! You see, babies are born without the ability to fall asleep on their own. Some babies learn to do so quickly, while others (like my dear daughter) have to be helped along. It was rough, there were a lot of tears shed (by both of us) but we finally did it. Ella can now be placed in the crib while fully awake and left there to drift off to sleep by herself. This ability to self-soothe has SAVED MY LIFE and my boobs and my biceps. The days of rocking and nursing her endlessly to get her to take a 20 minute nap are over. GLORY!!!

Let’s see, what else is new? Oh. I’ve resumed my hate-hate relationship with the treadmill. I have a feeling that hell will be filled with treadmills. After one minute on that dreadful machine I discovered that my pelvis did not escape childbirth unscathed. I’m no doctor but I think it’s broken. I pushed through the pain though. Because I’m awesome. Also because I have to work out – my abs didn’t escape childbirth unscathed either.

I’ve also slowly began my effort to live a healthy lifestyle. My passionate affair with fast food has come to a heartbreaking end. All is not lost however, because APPARENTLY eating snacks in between meals is good for you! And this works wonderfully because I love to eat. I think I have a food addiction…it makes me so happy!  The only thing going through my head while I’m eating is happy, happy, joy, joy, happy, happy, joy!  Food is awesome. So, now my pantry is filled with healthy snacks. I eat them with reckless abandon.

Ahhhh it feels so good to blog again. I just feel like typing every word I know! Like. This. Hello. Yay. Cat.

LOL! Shiko, you’re a breath of fresh air. Congrats on your self-soothing baby. Food also makes me happy! I’ve recently been feeling so guilty about that, after this blog, not so much. 😉

So glad to hear that Ella is able to put herself to sleep. I’m sure she is as relieved as you are. Nice to have you blogging again. 🙂

She can even talk herself to sleep. Right up to the point when her eyes are barely open and all she can do is mumble her gibberish.

    I like this
” saved my life , my boobs and my biceps” I can totally relate. my arms feel like jello and yet baby is only 4.6kg now. (Please convert that cause its been long since I lived outside the metric scale) She’s a little thing yet to me she looks so big. I thought my arms were supposed to be getting buff not falling apart. I dont even want to get started on the abs coz that’s a sensitive subject but I would like to think that one day SOON all will be back to normal. Lol.

Rest with ‘sleep training’. I had to do it all again after we travelled. Will definately blog about it as part of my ‘baby lessons series’. Happy days for you!
