I’ll be the first to admit that I’m not an artsy person. I have never been. In fact my dad loves to remind me of that one time in kindergarten when I had a nervous breakdown because my homework included one simple instruction: to draw a pig. I was 5 years old and convinced that I didn’t know how to draw anything. Let alone something as complicated as a pig! I cried for hours.
Eventually, he calmed me down to a point where I was able to scribble something down (my dad is the best) but he never lets me forget about how hard I wailed over a pig. He tells this story every single chance he gets. And laughs hysterically every single time he tells it.
Suffice it to say, I’ve never been the artsy type. And then, something incredible happened – PINTEREST. Pinterest happened! Now, I’m still not an artsy person BUT, I’m a not-artsy-person that’s full of artsy ideas!
This, ofcourse, would be a problem if all my fantastic (!) artsy ideas were forced to remain in my head, but they’re not! Because I happen to know an actual artsy person who can bring all these ideas to life – Mr. Big! He is my actual artsy person. He paints, he draws, he sculpts and does just about everything that actual artsy people do.
Our (yes, our) artistic process usually starts with me bubbling over with excitement after one of my Pinterest marathons and being like, “Babe! I need you to hand blow glass vases, and then decorate them with multicolored pieces of broken glass and hints of Tibetan silk! And then we’ll string them up from the ceiling to make a DIY chandelier!”
At this point he’ll stare at me quietly for a while, take a deep breath and then suggest a more feasible version of my idea, to which I reply, “OR THAT! Yeah, let’s do that!”
This past month we’ve been working on a set of vases made from wine bottles.
It’s a great way to recycle old wine bottles. And a great excuse to buy wine in the first place. Ha!
The bottles add some quirky flair to our home décor. And I’m all about quirk and flair!
We’re having loads of fun creating these. I’m already digging through Pinterest for our next project. Can’t wait!
